Rethymno. The beautiful ancient Venetian city located along the northern coast of Crete, Greece.
A close resemblance to the Venetian Harbor in Chania, Rethymno has numerous restaurants, cafes, shops, bars and hotels. It is the third largest city on Crete; however, it doesn’t feel like a large city due to many quaint alley streets flourishing with romantic charm.
You can find long sandy beaches combined with medieval city ruins; as well as the famous Rimondi Fountain in the Platanou Square (once known as the center of the Venetian City). The fountain was built in 1626 where it would supply the entire ancient city with free water and it still springs water today!
There is an organic beer brewery (Brink’s Brewery) located outside the city center.
Unfortunately, there weren’t any tours available when we visited. Boo! But you can find another Cretan beer brewery located in Chania prefecture called Charma Beer. You can find this brewery on the way to Paleochora!
With many lively bars and restaurants located along the Venetian Harbor, you’ll definitely have a fun night out.
Take a romantic walk along the beautiful harbor towards the picturesque Venetian Lighthouse (there is one in Chania, too!). It’s a wonderful way to end your day here in Rethymno.
