So our travels have lightly picked up again. We were able to take a couple Covid-19 tests and board Hawaiian Airlines with a final destination to Maui.
Landing on island soil again, we were thrilled to submerge our toes in the sand.
It has been one full year since we left our Island home in Crete, Greece; and even though the Hawaiian Islands are not “home” for us, we still richly enjoyed the island we got married on 8 years ago.
We decided to venture out above the luscious landscape where the weather gets a little cooler, a little greener (could that even be?) and the vibes are a lot slower (once again… could that be?!). Yes. Yes it was. And it was delightful.
We drove up the side of the Haleakala (House of the Sun) Volcano to find a sweet little town called Kula.
With tons of dense mist and rolling hills surrounding us, we felt like we left Maui completely and was transported into the english countryside (with a hint of the tropics!).
There are adorable small towns littered up the mountain with jaw-dropping gorgeous views, seeing both west and east coastlines of the Island.
We stopped for a morning cup of joe and to stretch our legs when we saw a sign that said “Fresh Coffee” – soon realizing that we stopped off at Kula Farms.
We walked around and checked out the small gardens and strawberry-picking fields,
purchased some fresh veggies from the Kula Farms small market stand and grabbed a cup of joe.
Then, after a nice deep breath of fresh Maui air overlooking the gorgeous view, we were off again to our destination:
The Ali’i Kula Lavender Fields.Â
Maui’s organic lavender fields & beautiful gardens are sprawled across a vast 13.5-acre farm and are filled with around 55,000 lavender plants and 20 different varieties of lavender, olive trees, hydrangea, protea, succulents and an amazing collection of other plants.
Lavender is not native to Maui; however since the farm opened, it has acclimated very well to the volcanic slopes of the dormant Maui volcano and thrives in Kula’s Mediterranean-like climate.
Once we arrived, we spent the entire mid-morning relaxing; drinking organic lavender tea while strolling along the grounds. Smelling the sweet-yet-distinguished calming scent of lavender all around us. It was divine.
And we were most excited to be able to get ahold of a little organic Maui lavender to bring back to you! You can find this lavender in our Maui Lavender Whipped Sugar Scrub – but since it’s a limited edition, we can’t promise we’ll stay in stock for very long.
It was a most delightful day out in the countryside along the dormant Maui volcano. It was our first time visiting Kula. And we couldn’t believe we didn’t visit this area sooner on our previous trips to Maui.
So of course we highly recommend you visiting this magical place during your next trip to Maui!
